Ruth and I live in Homer, Alaska, the self-proclaimed "Cosmic Hamlet By The Sea". Last weekend we tried out our new R-Pod camper for the second time. We met our friends Paul & Louise Allan at Rainbow Lake, off the Swanson River Road, near Sterling. We had set up camp right by the lake and watched as two kayakers paddled back in the late afternoon. I was dragging a spruce log out of the woods with Ruth past the Allans camper when I large pickup with a Bigfoot camper came barreling into the parking lot, heading right at us, with their lights flashing. A guy stuck his head out of the window and yelled, "that was the 'Skookum flash!'" The "Flash" is something I do when traveling on our boat, Skookum, when I flash other boats I know with my LED light bar that's at the bow of the boat. It was our friends Joel & Richelle Miller, who we thought had already left the state for the winter! They had bought their new camper in Anchorage and then decided to come back south to the Kenai Peninsula for a little time before they headed out. To find us at this campground out of the blue, without knowing our plans, was super serendipitous! If you looked down at the earth and watched all of us as we traveled our supposed individual ramblings, you'd not think it was just happenstance, you'd had to believe it was cosmic fortune...
