Cornwall / Day 1 Hike / THE LIZARD

This was the first of five days hiking the Cornwall coast with guide (and Poldark body-double), WalkItCornwall's Paul Simmons. Each day was a custom hike, produced by Paul with attendance to our interests, and his knowledge of weather patterns and places. And each hike was so different from the others. Paul wanted us to understand the DNA of his beloved Cornwall. By the end of the week Cornwall's DNA was in our blood.
Our first day of hiking brought us to the east side of the Lizard Peninsula and the coastal fishing town of Coverack. We traveled about 7 miles ending on a coutry lane where a cattle traffic jam slowed our return to Paul's van, named "Ellie".

Cornwall / Day 2 Hike / LAND'S END

Day 2 started with a stop at an overlook of St. Michael's Mount in Marazion. Then it was on through Penzance to Porthcurno and the coastal hike north towards Land's End.

Cornwall / Day 3 Hike / POLDARK COUNTRY

Day 3 took us to the north Cornwall coast, an area rich with mining history dating back to Roman times. It's also an area brought to modern awareness as the backdrop for Masterpiece Theater's 21st century version of Poldark, a series of historical novels by Winston Graham, published from 1945 to 1953 and continued from 1973 to 2002.

Cornwall / Day 4 Hike / LIZARD POINT

Day 4 included a return to The Lizard peninsula and the southernmost point on mainland Great Britain.

Cornwall / Day 5 Hike / ROSEMULLION HEAD

Our last day of hiking was also our longest day in which we traveled 10 miles along the coast from Rosemullion Head (point) and down through the Helford River area.
